086 Science Club Urban Farming Workshop
On Thursday, 13th March, 2025, students of SXBA participated in an Urban Farming workshop organised by the Science Club. The aim of the workshop was to demonstrate simple and effective ways in which students would be able to be self-sufficient and grow their own food.
The 1-and-a-half-hour introductory workshop was conducted by Mr. Anuj Bulsara and Mr. Ashish Dandekar (father of Yashas Dandekar, class 8-2) experts in the field of agriculture. Students were organised into groups of 4 and taught how to make simple and quick method to make a DIY pot out of waste card paper. They were also shown how to create a nutrient-rich mixture of carefully proportioned soil made of different components like manure, compost, charcoal segments, castor and neem among others. The students enjoyed measuring out each component carefully and understood the correct and ideal way of germinating the seed in the root cup as well as placement of the seed in the cocopeat base medium.
The students enjoyed making their own mix and took home a seed cup, ready to grow their own bottle gourd. The workshop was attended by Ms. Teresita D’gama and Ms. Neharika Vaz, and organised by Ms. Marilyn Rebello.
