126 Natural Colour Making Workshop 12/3/24

Festivities and celebrations add colours of joy to our lives. However, our celebrations shouldn't be a cause of worry for our environment or for our very own selves.  Keeping this in mind, the Science club organized a Natural Colour Making workshop “Rang Leela” on 12th March, 2024 at 1:00 pm in the media room.

The objective of this workshop was to create awareness about the health hazards of artificial colours that are sold in the market during the festival of Holi. Besides, they also cause a lot of environmental damage. In this workshop the students were taught to make natural Holi colours from cornstarch and colouring pigments obtained from various food items (beetroot, turmeric, spinach, etc). These colours are safe on our skin and also environmentally friendly. Our Resource persons Mr. Aniket Desai and Ms. Keren Pereira guided our students with their input session and thereafter kept them happily engaged in creating their own Holi colours.   Our third resource person was Ms. Ashwini from the THRECO organisation which is involved in Recycling of metal and all kinds of E- waste. Using statistical data, she made our students aware of how much E-waste is generated by our country and though we have been recycling tonnes of E- waste it still amounts to only 25 -30 % of the total E-waste generated.  Students were urged to adopt a minimalist lifestyle and avoid generating unnecessary E- waste at their level. She also mentioned that the Metal and E-waste  could be collected at their doorstep for recycling by the THRECO organization. The contact details of the organisation were shared with the students (8097808878, connect@threco.com, www.threco.com ).

Our students expressed their gratitude for such an informative and interesting workshop. It was a delight to watch each of the participants feel the joy and pride of making their own Holi colours. This Holi, let’s add Colours of Joy to each other’s lives but of course in a safe and environmentally friendly way!!! Wishing Everyone A Happy Holi
