052 Annual Day Celebration: A Unified Success

The Annual Day celebration at St. Xavier’s Boys Academy on November 30, 2024, was a resounding success, marked by a blend of nostalgia, talent, and community spirit. This year, for the first time, the event was held as an Annual Day instead of the usual Awards Day, bringing together both the primary and secondary sections in a unified program. The theme for the celebration was the same as the school theme for the academic year, "Learning to Lead and Build Bridges."

Significant moments included the lighting of the lamp, where dignitaries symbolically ignited the spirit of learning and growth, and the heartfelt welcome speech delivered by the Principal, Fr. Arul John Bosco S.J. The program began with a welcome song followed by a musical performance. The evening also included a Hindi drama performed by primary students, who captivated the audience with their talent.

The Guest of Honour, Mrs. Babardesai, spoke eloquently about the different stakeholders of the school, such as teachers, students, classmates, and parents, and how they shape the students. She illustrated this with her own experiences as a parent. The event recognized the achievements of outstanding students through awards and scholarships, celebrating their hard work and perseverance. During the awards ceremony, Mr. Brian Rebello was felicitated for his 25 years of dedicated service as a teacher. Chief Guest Dr. Shashank Shah, an accomplished academician, Director of NITI Aayog, and our esteemed alumnus, was also added to the Hall of Fame of SXBA with the presentation of a plaque, jointly by his past principal, Ms. Shirley D'Silva, and the present principal, Fr. (Dr.) Arul John Bosco S.J.

Dr. Shashank inspired attendees with his words of wisdom, aligning with the school’s motto, “Tenebras Illuminare et Vias Dirigere” (To Light the Darkness and Guide the Way). He spoke about the qualities needed in a student using the acronym WATCH. The presence of a couple of past principals and the manager added to the event's significance.

Moreover, the event encouraged participation from parents through an engaging online quiz (Kahoot), fostering a sense of community and interaction. This unique initiative aimed to engage parents in the celebration. The most energetic part of the program was the series of dance performances showcasing the diverse cultures of India. The evening concluded with a rendition of the school song and the national anthem.

The successful execution of the event highlighted the hard work and dedication of students, teachers, and parents alike. The meticulous coordination by the staff and the generous attendance by parents ensured that this Annual Day will be remembered fondly for years to come. Special thanks were extended to the authorities of St. Mary's ICSE for their generosity in offering the hall and other amenities.

Overall, the Annual Day served as a testament to the school's commitment to fostering talent, celebrating achievements, and building lasting connections within the school community. This initiative has set a new precedent, and we are proud to have taken this step forward.
