113 The Human Cardiovascular System: Guest lecture by Dr. Imran Chikani

Students are greatly benefitted by interacting with and being exposed to professionals in the field that practice, on a daily basis, the content they are learning. Thus, to better understand and to offer an extra dimension to the concept of the topic Human Body and Organ Systems: Cardiovascular System, in their science syllabus, Dr. Imran Chikani MD, BHMS, was invited by Ms. Marilyn Rebello, to give the students of class 8-1 a lecture on the topic on 16th February, 2024, from 7:30am to 8:15am. Dr. Chikani, an amateur astronomer, is a homeopathic specialist at Saifee Hospital.

Dr. Chikani led the students through the structure and flow of blood through the different organs, taking great pains to help the students visualise the movement of oxygenated and de-oxygenated blood in the different chambers. He patiently fielded curious questions, asked the students probing questions and good-humouredly navigated through silly responses. He shared his medical expertise and knowledge of available treatments for various cardiac diseases and gave them some rather matter-of-fact statistics on the risks of poor eating habits and the gradually reducing lower limit of patients facing heart failure and related lifestyle diseases.

The students appreciated the knowledge Dr. Chikani shared with them, and greatly enjoyed the lecture. We are grateful to Dr. Chikani for generously taking the time to give our boys an impactful learning experience and making the topic come alive.
