Greenline Waste Management Session – 15/9/2022
The second session by ‘Greenline’ for the Nature Club members was held on
15th September 2022 in the Media Room at 1 p.m. The session was mainly based on the topic – ‘Sustainable Waste Management’ with the focus theme being ‘Hasting Against Wasting.’ The session consisted of an informative PowerPoint Presentation and some exciting games.
The session increased awareness about segregating waste at our homes not just into the wet and dry bins but as a biodegradable and non-biodegradable waste. We learnt that 73% of the total waste consists of food waste. This food waste can be used to make compost which is a good alternative rather than dumping it in the dumping grounds. Over 70% of the total waste goes to the landfills and based on this a video was shown about the harmful effects of the waste dumped at the Deonar Dumping Grounds. Also some ideas of how to manage waste were discussed in the session namely: - Reducing Waste, Reusing Waste, Recycling Waste, Segregation and Composting
At the end two games were played. The first game consisted of segregating different items into dry waste and wet waste. The second game enabled us to answer some questions based on waste management in an exciting way. In this way the session encouraged us to segregate the waste at our homes and try to implement the Reduce, Reuse, Recycle mantra.
