058 School Interhouse Debate – 17th December 2024
The much-awaited School Interhouse Debate competition was held on 17th December 2024, in the Solagran Auditorium at 8:45 am showcasing the eloquence, quick thinking, and oratory skills of the students. The chairman of the debate was Mr. Larry Pereira. The event was divided into two sessions, with each house presenting a team of four members to engage in intellectual discussions on thought-provoking topics.
First Session: Tagore House vs Tilak House
The first round of the debate featured a clash between Tagore House and Tilak House. The topic of discussion was “The UN has been successful in maintaining world peace and avoiding conflicts. The Tagore house spoke in favour of the motion whereas the Tilak house was against it. Both teams presented compelling arguments, demonstrating their research and analysis skills. However, the Tilak House team stood out with their well-structured arguments and persuasive delivery, ultimately emerging as the winners of the first session.
The Tilak House debate team consisted of:
- Rudresh Jogadia (Class 10.2)
- Mohammed Mahableshwarwala (Class 10.1)
- Vivaan Katdare (Class 8.1)
- Yashas Dandekar (Class 8.2)
Second Session: Nehru House vs Kabir House
The second session of the debate featured a gripping discussion between Nehru House and Kabir House on the topic “Democratic leadership is more effective than authoritarian leadership.” The Nehru house debated in favour of the statement whereas the Kabir house argued against it. Both teams engaged in a passionate exchange, highlighting the strengths and weaknesses of each form of leadership. However, the Kabir House team presented a more convincing argument, which earned them victory in this session.
The Kabir House debate team consisted of:
- Qusai Karwa (class 10.1)
- Shaurya Shah (9.1)
- Mohammed Aiyaz Khatri (10.1)
- Arya Chauhan (10.2)
Judges and Evaluation
The debate was judged by esteemed alumni of the school, Mr. Sujay Malik and Dr. Kamlesh Desai. Their valuable insights and constructive feedback contributed to the overall success of the event, allowing the participants to further refine their debating skills.
Best Speaker Awards
The competition also included the Best Speaker awards for each session. In the first debate, Rudresh Jogadia and Mohammed Mahableshwarwala of Tilak House were recognized for their exceptional performances and awarded the Best Speaker prizes. In the second debate, Shaurya Shah from Kabir House and Yashodhan Kansara from Nehru House were named Best Speakers for their outstanding contributions during the debate.
The School Inter House Debate was an engaging and intellectually stimulating event. The participants demonstrated their public speaking abilities and deep understanding of global issues. The competition not only promoted healthy debate but also encouraged students to think critically about important topics facing the world today.
