Independence Day Celebrations

Independence Day Celebrations -15th August 2019

The catholic students and some staff members participated in the ‘Eucharist’ celebrated by Fr.Blaise D’Souza s.j. – Manager at 7.00 a.m. (Media Room) after which the 73rd Anniversary of India’s Independence was celebrated with great enthusiasm at St.Xavier’s Boys’ Academy. After the hoisting of the flag by the chief guest Ms. Vipula Bhagat and the other dignitaries, prayerful intentions were made to invoke the grace and blessings of our Divine Father that India may awaken to a heaven of freedom where all are treated equally and where Justice and Fraternity prevail. The prayer was followed by the prayer song, ‘Hum ko maan ki shakti dena’.

Eloquent speeches were made at different intervals by a student representative – Behram Motafram, a teacher–Ms.Sharon Buthello, the School Manager–Fr.Blaise D’Souza s.j. and the Principal – Ms.Preema Noronha. They were relevant and gave us food for thought emphasising the responsibility that comes with freedom, urging us all to work towards an India where every Indian has food, clothing, shelter and an opportunity for a decent education. The presentation of a musical video celebrated the unique diversity of India and the recitation of Tagore’s poem ‘Freedom’ reiterated the need to claim for India ‘Freedom- freedom from fear’. The prize distribution to reward the achievements of the students of class 10 (2018-2019) was followed by the finale which was a dance drama ‘Lest we Forget – Yaad Karo Qurbani’ which poignantly paid the much deserved tribute to our martyrs who paid the ultimate price for the safety and security of our Motherland - one of them being our very own Ex-Academite the Late Lt. Nawang Kapadia.
